4 Great walks in 4 days
Ever wanted to hike the Great Walks of New Zealand but could never decide which one? Then this trip is for you!
With the added bonus of spending your nights relaxing at the luxurious Fiordland Lodge (MUCH more comfortable than a bunk bed in a DOC hut!) you will spend a day each on the well-known Milford, Routeburn and Kepler Tracks as well as getting to experience our newest Great Walk with a helicopter adventure on the incredible Hump Ridge Track.
Fiordland Lodge (5 nights)
Set in a World Heritage Area, Fiordland Lodge offers the discerning traveler comfort and privacy, and is the perfect base to explore the surrounding Fiordland National Park. The elegance and splendour of the Lodge is mirrored in the breathtaking views of Lake Te Anau and Fiordland. Private and serene, the Lodge is perfect for relaxation, or as a base for your Fiordland experiences.
Kepler Track Guided Heli Hike
Over the next 3 days enjoy fully guided day hikes on the Milford, Routeburn and Kepler Tracks. These premier walks pass through unique and spectacular scenery, from native forests, lakes and rivers to mountain views, vast fiords and lush valleys.
Start with the The Kepler Track Guided Heli Hike which begins with a spectacular Scenic flight by helicopter from Te Anau Township, over the hidden lakes and beech forest of Mount Luxmore to arrive at Luxmore Hut to enjoy the panoramic views of the Te Anau basin, scenic lakes and surrounding Fiordland Mountains.
From this Department of Conservation Hut explore the alpine tussock fields and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding Fiordland Mountains. After time in the alpine area, hike down the mountain on a well-formed track. The track descends through mountain and silver beech forest, and passes under towering limestone bluffs to the sandy beach of Brod Bay, the pickup point for the boat cruise back to Te Anau.
Milford Track Guided Walk and Cruise
From Te Anau travel with your guide north along the eastern shores of Lake Te Anau and through the Homer Tunnel to Milford Sound.
Departing Milford Sound, the walk begins with a short boat ride to Sandfly Point. An easy 5.5 km walk (11 km return) alongside the cascading Arthur River, then Lake Ada, on a well maintained track takes you to your destination, Giant Gate. This scenic waterfall is best viewed from the large swing bridge. At this point you will return, walking under ancient temperate rainforest surrounded by an array of ferns, mosses and lichens in vibrant shades of green. The small group of 12 walkers to 1 guide provides an excellent opportunity to learn about the fascinating human heritage of the track.
On completion of the guided walk, complete the Milford Sound experience with an afternoon Scenic Boat Cruise 1 hour 45 minutes in length. With purpose-built observation lounges and large decks, you can be sure you’ll get some great viewing opportunities including the geological drama of sheer cliffs, massive waterfalls, glaciers and rainforest.
Key Summit Routeburn Track Guided Walk
This morning you will be collected from your accommodation for your guided day excursion from Te Anau to Key Summit to hike on the renowned Routeburn Track.
Begin the journey with a spectacular scenic drive along the Milford Road to the Divide Shelter which is the starting point for the guided walk to Key Summit. There are opportunities for short nature walks and photo stops along the way. Departing from the shelter, the walk ascends through lush, temperate rainforest on a well maintained track. The steady climb takes approximately 2 hours at a leisurely pace.
Gaining an elevation of 400 metres, emerge from the forest into the alpine environment, with panoramic views of high snowy peaks, alpine lakes, and deep bush clad valleys. On a fine day lunch (included) is on the summit amidst the alpine tarns, and in unfavourable conditions in the shelter of a nearby tramping hut.
Hump Ridge Track One Day Heli
Today you will have the opportunity to experience The Hump Ridge Track, New Zealand’s newest ‘Great Walk’. You will also enjoy an amazing jet boat trip down a remote Fiordland river, which very few get to experience, plus a great Heli ride!
